Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement

the Government of Canada settled allegations that it operated Federal Indian Hospitals in which Indigenous people admitted as patients were subjected to physical and sexual abuse. the Government of Canada denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.

A settlement providing individual compensation of $10,000 to $200,000 to Indigenous people who were admitted to a Federal Indian Hospital in Canada and experienced physical or sexual abuse there. The Claims Period is open until July 27, 2028. The Settlement also funds healing, wellness, research and commemoration programs.

How you get paid

Compensation ranges from $10,000 to $200,000, depending on the level of harm experienced. The individual compensation amounts are: Level 1: $10,000 Level 2: $50,000 Level 3: $100,000 Level 4: $150,000 Level 5: $200,000. Only one level of compensation is available per eligible Primary Class Member.
