King County, Washington settled allegations that it detained people at the King County Jail for more than 48 hours without a probable cause determination between January 2, 2021, and April 23, 2025. King County, Washington denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.

A settlement over the detention of people at the King County Jail for more than 48 hours without a probable cause determination between January 2, 2021, and April 23, 2025. Class Members can claim a cash payment.

People who were arrested without a warrant and detained at the King County Jail for more than 48 hours without a probable cause hearing between January 2, 2021, and April 23, 2025.

How do you get paid?

Class Members who had no warrants at the time of their arrest are paid a minimum of $1,500.00, plus additional compensation based on the number of hours they were detained without a probable cause determination. Class Members who had one or more warrants at the time of their arrest are paid $150.00.
