R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company and Precision Dialogue Direct, Inc. settled allegations in a case the official settlement website describes as follows: “The lawsuit alleges that the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (“BIPA”), 740 ILCS 14/1, et seq., prohibits private companies from capturing, obtaining, and/or disclosing biometric identifiers and/or biometric information, alleged to include finger scans, of an individual without first providing such individual with certain written disclosures and obtaining written consent.” R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company and Precision Dialogue Direct, Inc. denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.

The lawsuit alleges that the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (“BIPA”), 740 ILCS 14/1, et seq., prohibits private companies from capturing, obtaining, and/or disclosing biometric identifiers and/or biometric information, alleged to include finger scans, of an individual without first providing such individual with certain written disclosures and obtaining written consent. The deadline to file a claim was December 10, 2024.

The following Settlement Class has been conditionally certified by the Court for settlement purposes only: All individuals who worked at one of Defendant R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company’s locations in the State of Illinois, including, but not limited to, Precision Dialogue Direct, Inc., and who registered for or used a fingertip-scan timekeeping system in connection with their work for Defendants from August 26, 2017 through January 29, 2024.
