Nelnet Servicing, LLC settled allegations that the Settling Entities failed to implement reasonable data security measures to protect consumers’ personally identifiable information and, as a result of the Data Security Incident, Plaintiffs and Settlement Class Members have experienced or have been exposed to fraud and identity theft and have otherwise been injured. Nelnet Servicing, LLC denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.

A settlement of the data security cases against Nelnet Servicing, LLC, brought after an unauthorized third party accessed the personal information of current and former Edfinancial and OSLA account holders. The claim filing deadline of March 5, 2026 has passed, and the settlement website states the Fairness Hearing is scheduled for May 5, 2026. The settlement website states the Settling Entities agreed to pay a sum of ten million U.S. Dollars ($10,000,000) into a Settlement Fund.

All Persons in the United States whose Personal Information was compromised in the Data Security Incident. Excluded from the Settlement Class are the Settling Entities, any Person in which the Settling Entities have a controlling interest, and the Settling Entities’ officers, directors, legal representatives, successors, subsidiaries, and assigns, as well as any judge presiding over the Action and any Person that timely and validly opts out of the Settlement.

The only way to receive your share of the Settlement Fund was to complete and electronically file a timely and valid Claim Form, or to mail your Claim Form so that it was received by the claim deadline.
