The City of New York settled allegations that it detained people in unconstitutional conditions at its Central Booking facilities between April 8, 2017 and December 27, 2019 and between February 3, 2020 and March 1, 2023, violating their rights under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The City of New York denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.

How do you get paid?

Eligible class members may receive up to $475 for each time they were held in a Central Booking facility during the class period. The payment amount is based on the number of times you were detained in a Central Booking facility during the class period.

You must submit the claim form, online or by mail. To confirm the number of times you were held in a Central Booking facility according to NYDOC records, contact the Settlement Administrator.
