Whirlpool Side-by-Side Refrigerator Wire Harness Settlement
Published · Updated · SettlementList
Whirlpool Corp. settled allegations that certain side-by-side refrigerators it manufactured can experience a failure or breakage of wires running to the freezer door that disables the ice maker, ice dispenser, water dispenser and/or control panel, and that it breached warranties, was negligent, and fraudulently concealed this Wire Harness Issue. Whirlpool Corp. denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.
A settlement of a class action over certain side-by-side refrigerators with in-door ice makers, ice dispensers and water dispensers manufactured by Whirlpool from 2018-2021, sold under the Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid and JennAir brands. It offers a cash reimbursement or a free or discounted repair for broken wires to the freezer door (a Wire Harness Issue) that affect the icemaker, ice dispenser, water dispenser or control panel. Claims for past Wire Harness Issues are due November 2, 2026; future issues must be reported within 90 days of discovery.

Who is eligible?
The Settlement Class includes all persons who: (a) purchased a new Class Refrigerator for residential use from Defendant or its authorized resellers, within the United States and its territories; (b) acquired a Class Refrigerator as part of the purchase or remodel of a home; or (c) received a new Class Refrigerator as a gift from someone who purchased the refrigerator from Defendant or its authorized resellers, within the United States and its territories.
How do you get paid?
For a Wire Harness Issue existing as of May 5, 2026 and not yet fixed: a cash payment of 50% of Original Purchase Price (failure in years 2-3), 40% (years 4-5) or 30% (years 6-7 and later), or a free replacement door instead, with labor in years 2-4. Past paid repairs are reimbursed at 75% to 35% of the repair cost, and past paid replacements at 50% to 25% of the original purchase price — the higher rate if Whirlpool or the retailer was notified before paying. Wire Harness Issues that occur after May 5, 2026, between years two and seven after the In-Service Date, receive the same repair or cash options if reported within 90 days.
What proof do you need?
Claimants must submit their Class Refrigerator model and serial numbers and prove, through documentary proof or, alternatively, a declaration for some requirements, that they bought, acquired or received the refrigerator new, that they experienced a Wire Harness Issue, and any out-of-pocket repair or replacement cost claimed. Prequalified Settlement Class Members identified from Whirlpool’s records only need evidence of the costs claimed.
