23andMe, Inc. settled allegations that it failed to adequately protect class members' Personal Information and that they suffered harm as a result. 23andMe, Inc. denies any wrongdoing and the court made no finding of liability.
A settlement resolving lawsuits over a cyberattack 23andMe announced on October 6, 2023, which the official site says resulted in the theft of Personal Information concerning approximately 6.4 million United States residents. The company's assets were sold through bankruptcy proceedings and it now operates under the name Chrome. The claim filing deadline of February 17, 2026 has passed; the official site states that the Court approved a final settlement amount of $46.75M on July 7, 2026 and that class member payments are expected to be distributed in September.

Who is eligible?
Settlement Class Members are people who (a) were a 23andMe customer at any time between May 1, 2023 through October 1, 2023; (b) resided in the U.S. during this time; and (c) received notice from 23andMe that their personal information was compromised.
How do you get paid?
The official site lists up to $10,000 for Extraordinary Claims, up to $165 for Health Information Claims, an estimated $100 for Statutory Cash Claims, and 5 years of Privacy & Medical Shield + Genetic Monitoring. An Extraordinary Claim was limited to verifiable unreimbursed costs up to $10,000 per Settlement Class Member, paid from a fund capped at $8,300,000 and reduced on a pro rata basis if the claims exceeded that cap.
What proof do you need?
An Extraordinary Claim required a Claim Form and documentation showing what was spent and how it was related to the Cyber Security Incident.
